The Medical Centre for Dream-Related Disorders is a service provided by the Neurology Unit at Sacro Cuore – Don Calabria di Negrar (VR) Hospital, which has as its aim the diagnosis and treatment of dream-related disorders in adults and children.

The Centre is capable of conducting any examination pertaining to medical treatment of dream-related disorders, both as regards breathing problems during sleep and forms of hypersomnia or motion disorders while sleeping. The following medical checks are carried out:


  • complete monitored video-polysomnography at night (even with ventilo-therapy titration)
  • complete unmonitored video-polysomnography at night
  • cardio-pulmonary polysomnography
  • nocturnal oximetry
  • titration of CPAP devices (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure, mechanic ventilation by positive airway pressure) or BiPAP (Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure, Ventilation by Intermittent Positive Pressure) devices, both at home and during hospital stay
  • Dynamic monitoring of the sleep-wakefulness pattern (24-72 hours)
  • multiple sleep latency test (MSLT)
  • maintenance of wakefulness test (MWT)
  • actigraphy
  • prolonged EEG monitoring.

The staff members pursue a thorough and ongoing specific training program via courses and stages.

The diagnostic and therapeutic activity is inspired by the latest Italian and international guidelines, and avails itself, with regard to some pathologies, such as obstructive sleep apnea, of collaboration by other specialists (pulmonologists, otolaryngologists) as part of a comprehensive and multi-discipline approach.
