Surgical pathologists make their diagnosis by looking at tissue sample under a microscope. Samples from surgery or biopsy are processed, embedded in paraffin, cut into thin sliced and placed on a glass slide. They are then stained to make the cells visible under the microscope.

With cytology, diagnosis is made on the basis of dispersed cells rather than samples of tissue. The cytological material is divided in gynecologic (pap-test, using PapSpin, is also available an HPV-DNA test) and non gynecologic. The non-gynecologic material includes exfoliative specimens (e.g. effusions, ascites, urines, bronchoalveolar lavaged etc..) and fine-needle aspiration (FNA) specimens for palpable lesions and deep-seated lesions, supported by endobronchial ultrasound-guided FNA for mediastinal mass, endoscopic ultrasound-guided for pancreatic mass or thyroid nodules.

The Anatomic Pathology Unit provides immunohistochemical stains for diagnostic and prognostic purpose and molecular methods (Next-generation sequencing NGS) to identify molecular alterations to support the disease diagnosis and help guiding treatment options for a more personalized medicine.

[/vc_column_text][vc_gallery el_id=”gallery-209123″ medias=”10133,10136″ gutter_size=”3″ screen_lg=”1000″ screen_md=”600″ screen_sm=”480″ images_size=”sixteen-nine” single_overlay_opacity=”50″ single_padding=”2″ uncode_shortcode_id=”172859″][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”124941″]

WHERE WE ARE

Casa San Giuseppe – first floor

CONTACTS

Switchboard: (+39) 045.6013111

Service Secretariat: (+39) 045 6013415
Fax: (+39) 045 6013921
e-mail: anat.patol@sacrocuore.it

OPENING HOURS TO PUBLIC

From Monday to Friday 8.00am-3.00pm
Saturday 8.00am-12.00pm

EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITY

In agreement with the Trainee Program in Surgical Pathology of the University of Verona, we offer a 4-months rotation training for residents.
