In the Department of Urology the oncological, functional, reconstructive pathologies of adults and children are treated. From October 2014 the DaVinci Xi Robot was acquired, the latest model of robotic technology produced by the American company Intuitive Inc.

With the acquisition of this instrumentation the Urology Department wanted to specialize in the use of minimally invasive methods for the treatment of genito-urinary tract tumors. This allows for less bleeding (therefore less need for blood transfusions), reduced post-operative pain, shorter hospital stay, faster return to normal daily activities.

Robotic surgery represents the technological evolution of laparoscopic surgery as it allows to operate with better image stability, with a visual magnification of about 20 times and with a three-dimensional vision. The stability of the vision and the maneuverability of the laparoscopic arms allow the operator to clearly distinguish all the anatomical structures and conduct the operation by removing all the tumor cells, at the same time saving the anatomical structures responsible for male erection and urinary continence.

ANDROLOGICAL EVALUATION

We perform andrological doppler diagnostics with stimulation drug and intracavernous therapy for male erectile dysfunction, medicated infiltrations with drugs for IPP.

Erectile dysfunction

Intracavernous drug injections
Positioning of penile prostheses

COLLABORATION WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS AND SERVICES

The Department of Urology collaborates daily with the department of Gynecology in the treatment of endometriosis with involvement of the urinary tract. This pathology is treated laparoscopically and, for the urologic part, removal of endometriotic nodules adherent to the excretory pathway and reimplantation of the ureter in the bladder are performed. Much emphasis is given to the neuromodulation of the perineal plane with permanent implantation of sacral stimulators.

Subchronic system of sacral stimulators
Permanent implantation of sacral stimulators (in the coded treatment of dysfunctional pathologies of the inferior excretory pathway and pelvic floor)

PEDIATRIC UROLOGY

The Department of Urology has strengthened the aspect of Pediatric Urology, activating a collaboration with the consultant, Prof. Waifro Rigamonti of the University of Trieste. Therefore, outpatient visits and surgical operations are performed specifically dedicated to the treatment of the child’s urological pathology.
