The Urology Department treats the adult and child oncologic, functional and  reconstructive pathologies. Since October 2014 the Department is equipped with the Robot DaVinci Xi, the latest model of robotic technology produced by the American firm Intuitive Inc.

The Urology Department is specialized in using minimally invasive procedures to treat cancers of genitourinary system. This allows less bleeding (therefore less need of blood transfusions), reduced postoperative pain, shorter hospital stay, quicker return to normal daily activities.

The robotic surgery represents the technological evolution of laparoscopic surgery because it allows to operate with better image stability, visual magnification of approximately 20 times and three-dimensional vision. The stability of vision and maneuverability of laparoscopic arms allow the operator to sharply identify all anatomic structures and perform the surgery removing all tumoral cells, saving at the same time all anatomic structures responsible for the male erection and urinary continence.

COLLABORATION WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS AND SERVICES

The Department of Urology daily collaborates with the Gynecology Department in the treatment of endometriosis with involvement of urinary tract. This pathology is treated laparoscopically and, for the urologic part, the Department carries out removals of endometriosis nodules adherent to urinary tract and reimplantations of ureter into the bladder. The neuromodulation of the perineal plane with permanent implantation of sacral electrostimulators is highlighted.

Subchronic implantation of sacral electrostimulators
Permanent implantation of sacral electrostimulators (in codified treatment of dysfunctional pathologies of lower urinary tract and pelvic floor)

PEDIATRIC UROLOGY

The Department of Urology enhanced the Pediatric Unit, by activating a collaboration with the Professor Waifro Rigamonti from University of Trieste. The Unit performs outpatient examinations and surgeries, specifically dedicated to the treatment of children’s urological disease.
