ACTIVITY

Schistosomiasis Screening and other Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) in Immigrants clinic

This Unit has the purpose of favoring screening, diagnosis and care courses of patient affected by Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) on outpatient procedure.

Unit Chief: Dr Gerardo Monteiro

The access to the Clinic is direct, autonomously for the patient or after the assessment at the Immigrants Health Center (CESAIM) or through mediation of host communities with the Humanitarian Aid Office at the Hospital Solidarity Center. The Unit offers carrying out of necessary diagnostic investigations on the basis of clinical-epidemiological parameter for an adequate clinical diagnosis (sampling, radiological and endoscopic check, specialized visits). At the end of course the patient is sent to the CESAIM for non-specific treatments or to his/her treating physician; for specific treatments, in case of tropical diseases, the patient is sent to hospital stay ward or protected clinic.

Parasitosis clinic

The Clinic is dedicated to the diagnosis and therapy of intestinal parasitosis (giardiasis, strongyloidosis, amebiasis, oxyurasis…) or zoonosis (leishmaniosis, toxoplasmosis, echinococcosis, dirofilariasis…). Furthermore, the clinic is dedicated to the investigation of persistent cause to be determined eosinophilia cases to exclude parasitic nature.

Rare infectious diseases clinic

The Clinic is dedicated to the diagnosis and therapy of rare infectious diseases that in Italy are the Lyme disease, the Whipples’s disease and the Hansen’s disease (leprosy). The Center is a Veneto Region reference facility authorized to the certification of rare disease (it may issue the exemption of rare infectious disease) and so to open the patient’s clinical dossier.

Vector-borne diseases clinic

The Clinic is dedicated to the diagnosis and therapy of diseases transmitted by ticks or other vectors  acquired in the Italian area (Lyme disease, tick-borne encephalitis, anaplasmosis, babesiosis, leishmaniosis) or internationally (rickettsiosis, Lyme disease, leishmaniosis). Furthermore, counselling is carried out on the behaviour to take before travelling to areas epidemiologically at risk of tick bite or after tick bite.

Chagas disease (or American trypanosomiasis) clinic

The Clinic is dedicated in particular to the follow-up of patients treated at the stay ward or in other wards for the Chagas disease. Some instrumental tests (generally ECG), medical examination and laboratory tests, including serology, quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR) for Trypanosomacruzi are carried out.

Tuberculosis and atypical mycobacteriosis clinic

The Clinic is dedicated to the diagnosis and therapy of persons with tuberculosis or mycobacteriosis suspected or ascertained or to the follow-up of patients discharged from the ward.

Osteoarticular and prosthetic/devices infections clinic

The Clinic manages the diagnosis, care and follow-up of patients with orthopaedic infections (acute and chronic osteomyelitis), especially those related to prostheses or means of synthesis. The Clinic is integrated in an agreement with the Orthopaedics and Traumatology Complex Unit for a multidisciplinary case management.
