Information after admission

The information related to most frequent problems that can be encountered in postoperative phase are described in the letter of discharge.

  • The skin stitches are reabsorbable and there is no need to remove them (average spontaneous fall time 2 weeks). They can also be removed after 7 days by treating physician. It is especially important a careful cleaning of stich in first days after discharge (it is possible to wash with soap and water: the shower can be taken immediately, the bath after 7 days). For the first days it is useful to disinfect the wound with any disinfectant. The plaster can be removed from the first few days. We do not recommend exposing surgical wounds to the sun or tanning lamps for 3-4 months after surgery or at least covering the wounds with a total protection cream.
  • The histological test will be delivered at the postoperative control (the date is shown on letter of discharge). If the patient does not show up at control, the histological test will be sent to the address shown in the medical record.
  • Do not have deep vaginal sex for 4 months
  • Avoid lifting significant weights (over 10-20 kg) or movements leading to an increase in intra-abdominal pressure, e.g. abdominal exercises.
  • It is possible to have modest vaginal bleeding after about 2 weeks after surgery which should resolve spontaneously within a few days. If the bleeding does not stop spontaneously, please contact the Department.
  • In case of intense, acute abdominal pain and/or onset of fever (above 38°C) we advise to show up within 6-8 hours at the Department (third floor) or contact the physicians by phone.
